Estimate for repair of botched roof replacement: $150,000

August 3, 2022

Tammie Arend has filed a lawsuit against Scott Frederickson Construction for the damages done to her home as a result of a botched roof replacement. She has struggled to get an estimate of the repair costs, contacting  dozens of contractors trying to get someone to examine her home and give her a detailed statement of what needs to be done and how much it would cost. Several have not shown up when they said the would. Others looked the place over and said they were not interested. Others expressed interest but did not follow through and provide a written estimate.

Who can blame them? She has been afraid to tell them the name of the contractor responsible for the damage or that she has filed a lawsuit. They probably think there is no way she is going to come up with the money to restore the place - why waste their time? And it certainly wouldn't be a glamorous project.

She says a few told her they fear retaliation from the City if they were to put their name on any estimates; the City might blackball them and they would not be considered for future projects.

But earlier this month, a local contractor actually did show up and do a thorough examination of the damages. He listened to Tammie and took the time to explain what needed to be done and why. The company specializes in damage restoration. The contractor actually delivered a written estimate which contains this job description and price:

$150,000 is about twice what the current market value of the house would be if Frederickson hadn't ruined it. And that doesn't include repairs to the chimney that vents the water heater and furnace:

Nor does it include the replacement of furniture and household goods ruined by mold.

The pre-trial conference is scheduled for October 21 and the jury trial before Judge Wanda Stokes for November 7 (court dates). The parties have agreed to mediation.
