We need to join the fight for Ukraine

March 5, 2022

The U.S. and NATO are reluctant to join the fight for Ukraine because they are afraid it will give Putin an excuse to use nuclear weapons. While that is a legitimate concern, it would not have stopped us from defending a NATO member. The NATO agreement would have required the other member nations to take that risk. Although not a NATO member, Ukraine is a democracy little different from member states. All that is lacking is a signature on a document. And the only reason that hasn't happened is that it might upset Putin. Not Russia, but Putin.

We can't stand by and let thousands of Ukrainians be massacred and their country destroyed. We can't let Putin commit any atrocity his evil mind conceives just because he has nuclear weapons.

Defending Ukraine does not require strikes on Russian territory except for the launch sites of missiles and artillery within its borders. Otherwise, we'd attack Russian aircraft and military only within Ukraine. And we'd spare aircraft, vehicles and personnel that are heading out peacefully.

Finally, we'd tell Putin ahead of time and give him a chance to start the withdrawal.
